StudioM633.com SMyrick, Autumn Blessings Heated Copper Leaf

Hello!  It’s been so long since I’ve entered a challenge!  I just needed a bit of a change in pace this past week so I checked out the SplitcoastStampers site for something fun to give me a creative spark. I made two designs for one challenge (Splitcoaststampers CAS284) and one of the cards also fits into a recently featured technique (heated copper accents).

First, the challenge involved choosing a design from a featured stamper’s gallery to recreate. I just love the work of the featured muse, Tenia Sanders-Nelson. Her designs are so creative!  I chose to recreate this card from Tenia’s gallery (see below or click here):

My recreated designs use a sketch/layout similar to hers but with subtle differences. Both of my cards are for the fall season and both feature wood grain embossing, burlap ribbon and a copper embellishment.

I used the heated copper accents technique on the maple leaf featured in my first card. This technique is really cool–I have plans to play with this some more once I get some more medium weight copper sheeting.

The second card features a pear that was die cut from a thinner copper backed with aluminum. This material did not work well with the heating technique. Since I didn’t get vivid colors from heating, I added a bit of Tim Holtz distress paints to add a bit of subtle shading.
